Brandon Sprague
The Brandon Sprague Band current lineup includes Doug Perry on bass, Fred Epstein on drums, and Brandon Sprague, lead guitar, slide guitar, and vocals. Brandon Sprague lives and performs year-round at various venues in S.D. and the region and is recognized among peers who include the best in the world of blues as a great performer. Brandon has played with numerous acts or opened for them. B.B. King knew of Brandon’s ability and asked Brandon to join him as opening act on the B.B. King tour of 2004. B.B. stated, “Brandon plays from the heart and will be part of carrying on the blues torch”, while discussing the legacy of Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Brandon is a gifted lead guitarist/vocalist and has performed at major venues in Chicago, New Orleans, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, & Denver. He has opened or performed with these major artists: B.B. King, Fabulous Thunderbirds, Joe Walsh, Neville Brothers, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, George Thorogood, Smokin’ Joe Kubek w/Bnois King, Reverend Horton Heat, Joan Jett, Doobie Brothers, Chicago, Robert Cray, Little Feat, Travis Tritt, Big Head Todd & the Monsters, Robert Randolph, Walter Trout, Charlie Musselwhite, .38 Special, Junior Brown, Edgar Winter, Georgia Satellites, Son Seals, Kenny Neal, Eddy Clearwater, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Tab Benoit, Roomful of Blues, Russell Jackson (former bassist for B.B. King), Sista Monica, Kentucky Headhunters, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Jimmy D. Lane, Jimmy Thackery, Kelley Hunt, Indigenous, Randy McAllister & Chris Duarte. In addition to these artists Brandon has had the opportunity to meet such artists as Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, Jimmie Vaughan, Jimmy Rogers, Doyle Bramhall I, Doyle Bramhall II, and Pinetop Perkins. Brandon has opened for the Fabulous Thunderbirds at three various venues.
In 2012 Brandon Sprague Blues Band performed at the Sioux Falls, S.D. JazzFest , which included headliner Joe Walsh. In 2014 the band performed at Sioux Falls JazzFest, headliners on this day were George Thorogood and Government Mule. In 2017 the band played JazzFest when Robert Cray was headliner. Brandon has played the Sioux Falls Pavilion opening for B.B. King, and the Sioux Falls Arena with Indigenous.
Brandon Sprague has played solo acoustic at the annual Guitar Masters Series in Rapid City, SD three different years. In 2018 Vince Converse and Brandon sold out the new Hay Camp venue in Rapid City. Brandon has also performed with Randy McAllister in the Black Hills and in Denver, CO.
The CD “Edge of the World” was recorded by East-Side Flash at Flashpoint Studio in Austin. Flash is a long time Austin musician and studio owner. The CD was mastered by Fred Remmert at Cedar Creek Studios in Austin, Texas. The CD features excellence in musicians and studio production. An earlier CD was released with the band Soul Kitchen and was recorded at Blue Heaven Studios in Salina, Kansas which received acclaim in “Blues Revue” magazine.
Brandon Sprague performed with bluesman Eddy Clearwater at Eddy’s downtown Chicago club, Reservation Blues. In Houston, TX he played the Fabulous Satellite Lounge and nearby Woodlands Pavilion an outdoor amphitheater. Brandon also played Blue Cat Blues club in Dallas, TX a well-known club in Deep Ellum. Brandon played several clubs in New Orleans and around Louisiana with Vince Converse and Tab Benoit.
Brandon Sprague has played the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally since he was a young teenager in high school, opening for major acts and performing with his own band at the Full Throttle Saloon, Rock n the Rally, and several downtown Sturgis venues for several years, often playing 2 shows per day in Sturgis and Deadwood.
Other highlights from 2013 included another opening for B.B. King, performing at the Fargo, ND Blues Festival, and headlining the Yankton, SD RibFest. Charlie Musselwhite was the Fri. headliner at the festival and included Walter Trout, Lil Ed & the Blues Imperials, Janiva Magness, and Albert Castiglia. They perform every weekend at the Deadwood Tobacco Co. & in 2013 added the Saloon #10 in Deadwood, performing there on Sunday or nights.
Summer 2015 Played Wild Bill Days in downtown Main Street, Deadwood, SD opening for Junior Brown and the 20th Anniversary of Bear Tooth Motorcycle Rally in downtown Red Lodge, MT.
The band has played First on Main an annual street festival dance in downtown Dickinson, ND for two years. They also play the Fort Randall Casino Lounge in Pickstown, SD and the Dakota Casino in Watertown, SD. In 2015 they played Main Street Square in Rapid City, SD opening for Kentucky Headhunters.
The band .38 Special met Brandon at his club gig in Deadwood and asked “Where in the hell have you been!” They proceeded to jam with him the rest of the night at the club. The band had a second performance with Don Barnes in 2013. In 2018 Travis Tritt visited the club with his guitar and proceeded with an all-night blues jam performance with the band. In 2018 they were the opening act for headliner Atlanta Rhythm Section at the Southern Black Hills Music Festival. In 2017-2018 they performed at the CATS Festival in San Antonio, TX as the headliner. In addition to their regular weekend gigs in Deadwood, 2019 brought shows at the El Riad Shrine Temple ballroom in Sioux Falls, SD & Fort Randall Casino, Pickstown, SD.
In 2019 Johnny Moeller, guitarist for the Fabulous Thunderbirds visited the band at the Deadwood Tobacco Co. for an evening jam session performance. In 2021 they rocked the 445 Club in downtown Rapid City, SD and the Happy Tavern in Johnson Siding, SD. Recent gigs in Rapid City also include the Lost Cabin Brewery, the Park, Custer Beacon, Killian's in Spearfish, Sheridan College and Missoula, Montana. 2023 ended at the Sturgis Veteran's Club with more shows on the way soon.
